Region 3

Upstate New York, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ontario

June 2010 Newsletter Article

It was great to see all of the Region 3 members at the breakfast meeting held in Vancouver. We had a nice meeting with participation from a wide variety of institutions.

Maryellen Gusic presented a summary of the plans for the Educational Scholars program and Lynn Garfunkel presented a summary of CORNET activities.

We sadly said goodbye to Bob Hilliard who will no longer be region co-chair. We would like to thank him for being such an enthusiastic leader and advocate for our region, and are happy he will still be an active member of Region III. Cynthia Rand from Rochester will be joining Carrin Schottler-Thal as the new region co-chair.

We will also be saying good bye to Maryellen Gusic, who has always been a very important and active member of our region. She will be starting an exciting new position as Dean of Education at the University of Indiana.

Once again, our regional members were very active in the PAS National Meeting. Of particular note is Sara Eleoff, from Rochester, who was the winner of the young investigators award. Her special interest, kinship care, has opened up a new and interesting area of research.

We again decided that Region III will be doing a combined regional meeting with Region II. This regional meeting is always very interesting, and is being planned for sometime in March 2011.

Warmest Regards,

Region III Co-Chairs:
Cynthia Rand
