PAS brought a crowd of over 6500 physicians to the lovely city of Vancouver during its annual meeting May 1st - May 4th 2010. With the PAS meeting, the APA had a celebration of its own as APA just celebrated its 50th Anniversary demonstrating continued leadership and excellence in education, research, patient care, and advocacy. Danielle Laraque delivered an outstanding and challenging Presidential Address regarding Global Child Health: Reaching the Tipping Point for All Children. Her address was followed by poetry readings and an oral history project video that captured the thoughts and memories from the early founders and presidents. All present enjoyed a lovely 50th Anniversary Reception following the APA Presidential Plenary.
On Monday, May 3rd, 2010, Regions VII and VIII enjoyed their traditional regional breakfast meeting and had an opportunity to hear from members who had attended the various committee meetings on Education, Health Care Delivery, Public Policy and Advocacy, and Research. Region VII introduced their newest Co-Chair during the breakfast meeting: Nancy Kelly from Southwestern. We are also pleased to introduce Annamaria Church as the new Region VIII Co-Chair.
PAS has determined its next meeting to be from April 30th through May 3rd in Denver, Colorado in 2011 so please plan now to make every effort to attend as this meeting is a wonderful opportunity to prepare and present posters, abstracts, and workshops as well as visit with colleagues and friends while making new ones as well.
Finally, remember that out next regional meeting has already been scheduled for February 24th- 26th at the Hotel InterContinental in New Orleans for 2011. Please get ready to participate in this opportunity to prepare, mentor, moderate and review abstracts and posters or better yet - -present a workshop!! The proposed abstract deadline is October 16, 2010. More information will be available in future newsletters. In the interim, we should continue every effort to recruit new members to our organization. We have much for which we should be both proud and thankful, and we should make a decided effort to invite others to share in our experience as we continue to fulfill our mission statement and facilitate our professional development.
