Purpose
To establish a fund to support key APA Programs:
- Young Investor Grant
- Scholarships to Annual Meetings
- Consultants for Healthcare
Delivery Programs
- General fund for new programs
that serve the APA mission.
The financial demands on the APA have increased along
with its activities. Special Interest Groups (SIGs),
regions and committees have extended their work beyond
the annual meeting. APA programs have been limited by
financial constraints. Our hope is for the APA Fund
to be continuously renewed by member and corporate donations.
We endeavor to raise $500,000 over a three-year period.
Program Descriptions
Young Investigator Grant
This program provides small grants (up to $10,000) to
academic generalists in the earliest stages of their
careers. Although there have been more than 500 applicant
requests, only 42 awards have been made due to limited
resources. Investigators have had 33 publications in
peer-reviewed journals as a direct result of their funded
projects.
Fellow Scholarships
Beginning in 1998, the APA received financial support
to bring fellows to the annual meeting. Over 100 fellows
have been recipients of these funds. Our goal is to
provide support for many more.
Resident Scholarships
Our goal is to provide specific stipends annually for
residents to attend the PAS meeting where they will
experience the energizing activities of the APA, experiences
that will stimulate interest in the clinical, research
and teaching activities of academic generalists.
Health Care Delivery Consultation Program
This consultation program will provide technical assistance
for the establishment and/or implementation of innovative
health care delivery models to selected programs nationally.
Both on-line and on-site consultations may include (but
are not limited to) the following:
- Serving underserved populations
- Integrating research in clinical practice
- Integrating teaching of residents and medical students
in clinical practice
- Innovative approaches to delivering care to children
with complex medical and psychological needs.
How You Can Help

general academic pediatrics. It will enable us to expand
our already successful programs.

interest dollars will be spent), or to a program specific
activity in which you have a particular interest. Donations
