Print Document REGION VII Greetings to all Region VII members especially our new members from your region co-chairs. Here is the latest news from around the region. The Southern Regional Meeting is scheduled for February 8-10, 2007 in New Orleans, LA. The meeting consists of participants in six different societies including the Southern Society for Pediatric Research and Regions VII and VIII of the APA. Last year the meeting was moved to Atlanta due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This year New Orleans is ready and willing to accept visitors and the combined societies unanimously agreed to return to the Crescent City. Traditionally this meeting has provided an opportunity for young faculty, fellows and residents to present abstracts in a collegial environment. The APA has consistently presented excellent workshops and the breakfast meeting provides an opportunity to catch up with friends in the region. Your region VII representatives (Bryan, Suzanne and Teresa) heartily encourage all to attend. Registration information can be found at the www.com@tulane.edu website. Next, the APA national meeting is being held at the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting May 5-8 in Toronto, Canada. The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday December 5, 2006. Information about the meeting can be found at www.pas-meeting.org. Our colleagues in New Orleans report that things are slowly on the mend. LSU and Tulane faculty continue to provide comprehensive general pediatric and subspecialty care to the children of the region. New pediatric clinics are opening and recently both schools began working in cooperation with local and state authorities to open new school-based health centers. Access to quality health care continues to be the goal. The Texas Pediatric Society had a very successful meeting in Dallas in May. Your region chairs wish to thank those of you who consistently continue to encourage your colleagues to join the APA. Keep up the good work. |
