2008 Spring Newsletter Article
We are extremely pleased and excited to introduce ourselves as co-chairs of the newly formed Family Centered Care SIG. The idea of getting representation in the APA was conceived at the Pediatric Hospital Medicine 2007 meeting in Salt Lake City after a tremendous response at an informal Family Centered Care (FCC) meeting. We are enthusiastically planning for our first SIG meeting in Hawaii. Prior to the meeting, we will conduct a baseline evaluation of current FCC practices among APA members using a short e-mail survey. The survey will also ask for your input on initial projects for the SIG. We sincerely request you to respond and give us your views, as this will help us plan the initial SIG meeting based on your assessment of needs. We will present the results of survey at the meeting.
In addition, we plan to have a lively panel discussion on the experiences of different centers in implementing and maintaining Family Centered Rounds (FCR). The discussion will target three main groups in the audience:
- Those that are in the planning stage of FCR.
- Those who have started FCR within a year and are having teething problems.
- Those who have been conducting FCR for over a year and are fine-tuning the process.
We hope to generate enough enthusiasm to initiate future projects to evaluate and study FCR and FCC. The FCC SIG meeting will be on Saturday May 3rd from 10.30 am -1.30pm.
